Alfred "Fritz" Metro was born on December 1, 1918 in Aurora, Kansas to Peter & Lena (Bessette) Metro. He passed from this life on Tues., April 28, 2009 at his home in Concordia, KS at the age of 90. Fritz served in the US Army during WWII. He married Della Mae Monty on Nov. 6, 1945 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia. She preceded him in death on April 4, 2008. Fritz was a lifetime Concordia and Cloud Co. resident. He owned and operated Metro Auto Repair until 1989. After his retirement, Fritz drove the bus for the Senior Citizens Center for 10 years. Fritz was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of American Legion Post #76 & VFW Post #588 all of Concordia. He is survived by his daughters, Sandra Hittle & husband Chuck, Concordia, KS, Jolene Clark & husband Dave, Concordia, KS, Geralyn Strait & husband Bob, Lebo, KS, Joyce Dutton, Concordia, KS & Julie O'Donnell & husband Kenny, Salina, KS; his sons, Michael Metro & wife Carol, Salina, KS, Steve Metro & wife Deborah, Albuquerque, NM, Larry Metro & wife Deanna, Concordia, KS & Jim Metro & wife Michelle, Concordia, KS; 26 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren & 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Della Mae Metro; son, Monte "Ric" Metro; parents; 4 sisters & 5 brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Friday, May 1, 2009 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia with Rev. Barry Brinkman and Rev. LeRoy Metro officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM with a vigil service at 6:30 PM, Thurs., April 30, 2009 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors by VFW #588 & American Legion Post #76 will follow the services at St. Concordia Cemetery, Concordia. The family suggests memorials to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church or Meadowlark Hospice.
