Obituary

Alphonse "Al" Derousseau, 96 years of age, of Clyde, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center. He was born in Cloud County on July 30, 1917 to Edward and Eugenie (Bachand) Derousseau. Al married Marie Girard on March 4, 1946 in Clyde. He was a lifelong farmer. Al served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He worked almost 20 years for Gilmore-Tatge Manufacturing in Clay Center. Al was a former member of both St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Clyde, and a current member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Clay Center. Al was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and VFW Post #7515, both of Clyde. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post #76 and a member of the Moose Lodge #1428, both of Concordia. Al enjoyed farming, golfing, watching TV, and especially ballroom dancing with his wife Marie and friends.
Al is survived by his wife, Marie; 4 children, Adrian Derousseau and wife Edith of Ottawa, Joyce Gengler and husband John of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, Armand Derousseau and wife Stacie of Grapevine, Texas, Michael Derousseau and wife Ramona of Clay Center; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 7 sisters; and 2 brothers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Saturday, June 7, 2014 in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Clyde with Rev. Larry Letourneau and Rev. Larry Grennan officiating. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in St. Joseph with military rites by the Clyde VFW Post #7515 and Ft. Riley personnel. Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 PM Friday, June 6, 2014 with a rosary at 6 PM followed by family greeting friends in the Chaput Mortuary in Clyde. Memorials are suggested to the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery or the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in care of the mortuary. Chaput Mortuary in Clyde is in charge of arrangements.
