Andrew "Andy" Seifert, Jr., age
95, died Sat., Jan. 25, 2014 at Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde, KS.
He was born on May 31, 1918 in Clyde, KS to
Andrew, Sr. & Laura (Black) Seifert.
Andy graduated from Clyde High
School in 1938.
He served in the US Army
during WWII from 1942-1945.
He married
Josephine M. Nault on April 21, 1941 in Clyde, KS and have been married for
over 72 years.
Andy was a lifelong Clyde
resident and began working for his father at Seifert Jewelry in Clyde, KS which
was established in 1902.
He assumed
ownership in 1970 after his father died and owned the store until 1980 when he
sold the business to his son, Allan.
His
grandson Scott & wife Dawn, purchased the business in 2007 and Andy
continued to work at the store part time until 2012.
He was in the jewelry business for over 72 years.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist
Catholic Church, Clyde, American Legion Post #227, Clifton, the Clyde Area
Foundation and a past member of the Kansas Jewelers Association.
Gardening was Andy's passion, he lived to
work in his garden and share the fruits of his labor with his family, friends
and community.
He also loved to share
stories and advice about his gardening and cultivating ideas.
Andy was an avid sportsman, who loved to fish
and hunt.
He also volunteered his time
'working for the kids' at various local youth sporting events, but especially
as a member of the 'chain gang' for the football teams at home football games,
where he said, "it is the best seat in the house!".
Andy also ran the score clock at home
basketball games for 40 years.
Andy is survived by his wife,
Josephine, Clyde; son, Dr. David Seifert & wife Shirl, Sedona, AZ; daughters,
Jolene Moore & husband Don, Hays & Lori Adkins & husband Nick,
Clifton; daughter in law, Ellen Seifert, Clyde; grandchildren, Michael Seifert,
Chereé Netherton, Chad Seifert, Andrea Stovall, Vincent Seifert, Scott Seifert,
Leslie Olmstead, Aimee Brisco, Kylie Jefferis, Alison McNeil & Sadie Pruser;
28 great grandchildren & a host of additional family, friends, community
members and customers.
He was preceded in death by his
son, Allan Seifert; his parents & sister, Lucille Baecht.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Tues, Jan. 28 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde with Rev. Larry Letourneau officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Clyde with Military Honors by VFW Post #7515, Clyde. Visitation will be from 12 to 8 pm with a Rosary at 6 pm on Mon, Jan. 27 and family then greeting friends from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, all at Chaput Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to Park Villa Nursing Home or Mt. Calvary Cemetery Fund in care of the funeral home.
