Anita M. Brooks, age 93, Concordia, KS died on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, KS.
She was born September 16, 1914 in Hanover, KS to Douglas and Daisy Dyer Parks.
She graduated from Washington High School in 1932. Following graduation, she was the bookkeeper at the J.C. Penney Store in Washington, KS during the day and attended school at night.
After passing her Civil Service exam, she was hired as secretary at the Resettlement Office in Washington which became the Rehabilitation Corporation, and was later known as the Farm Security Administration and is now the Farm Service Agency.
On October 30, 1937, she was united in marriage to Lawrence B. Brooks. They made their home in Concordia, KS.
She was a homemaker and secretary for her husband, who was District Agent for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. Lawrence preceded her in death in 1958.
Following her husband's death, she became an agent for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company and serviced policies written by her husband.
When the First United Methodist Church was building a new church, she was offered the job as secretary for the Rev. Richard Taylor. She held that position for nine years.
She enjoyed her home and her hobbies that included gardening, needlework, reading, and travel. In 1964 she spent the summer in Europe.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Chapter EV PEO.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Beth Boyd and husband, Dick, Norton; one grandson, Lawrence A. Boyd, Colorado Springs, CO; one granddaughter, Rebecca (Boyd) Allen and husband, William B., London, England; great granddaughter, Emily Iris Allen, London, England; one niece, Joanne Barkyoumb, Manhattan; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Ray and Ellsworth Parks.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, Concordia.
Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.
Friends may call at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia from 9 AM to 9 PM on Tuesday, February 12, 2008.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
