Avis M. Cory, 89, of Concordia, KS, went to be home with her Lord on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia, KS, after a short illness.  She was born in the family home on March 13, 1929 in Republic Co., Kansas to Charles W. and Lucy Arvilla (Green) Wilson.

Avis married James C. "Jim" Cory on June 18, 1946, in Minneapolis, KS.  After 56 years of marriage, Jim preceded her in death on November 23, 2002.  Avis earned her GED in 1973. As a homemaker, her passion in life was to care for her family which she did with great love and care.  She was employed as a secretary for the Bayes-Erickson-Swiercinsky Insurance Agency.  Avis loved children and taught Sunday school at the Baptist Church where she was a member.  She was also a member of P.E.O. and was active in Circle at the church.

Avis loved spending time with her family and friends and will be remembered by her kindness and gentleness toward people, and her joy in teaching and caring for small children.

She is survived by her daughters:  Kathleen Chesebro (Roger), Grove City, PA; Karen Townsend (Ron), Columbus, OH; and Karla Chizek (Guy), Clyde, KS; a son, James C. Cory II (Tracy), Independence, MO; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Avis was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; a grandson, Alan Chizek; her parents; sisters, Minnie McCracken and Bernice Lambert; and brothers, Kenneth Wilson and Avery Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, with   Pastor Jonathon Peppers and Pastor Phil Goombi officiating.  Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.  Visitation will be Tues, July 10, 2018 from 1-8 pm with family greeting friends from 6-7 pm all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.  The family suggests memorials to The Wounded Warrior Project in care of the funeral home.  For online condolences, please visit www.chaputbuoy.com .
