Berneice M. Ayers of Washington, Kansas was born on December 17, 1934 in Clyde, Kansas to Eugene and Laura Couture Girard. She passed from this life on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Bryan LGH - West Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 72. She graduated from Concordia High School. She married Eugene Esslinger on Aug. 13, 1953. He preceded her in death on July 20, 1972. She helped on the family farm and was a homemaker. She married George "Lester" Ayers on July 3, 1981 and welcomed a new, blended family. He survives the home. She was a member of Hearts and Things, a Ladies Auxiliary member, she also assisted with 4-H and belonged to numerous clubs and activities. She is survived by her husband, Lester, Washington, KS; daughter, Jo Ann Rose and hus. Dewayne, Mahaska, KS; son, James Esslinger and wife Alice, Marysville, KS; blended daughters, Leigh DeVol, Washington, KS and Shirley Frager and hus. Gerry, Morrowville, KS; blended sons, James Ayers, Washington, KS and David Ayers and wife Becky, Highland, CA; sister, Theresa Buechel, Salina, KS; brothers, Paul Girard, Concordia, KS, Bernard Girard and wife Marcia, Solomon, KS and Larry Girard and wife Ann, Beloit, KS; 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene; a brother, Ernie Girard; brother in law, Bill Buechel and a granddaughter Donna June Ayers. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde, KS with burial following the services at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Clifton, KS. Visitation will be from 11 AM to 8 PM, Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at Chaput Mortuary with a Rosary service at 7 PM on Tuesday. The family suggests memorials to the Washington Co. Hospital-Hearts and Things.
