Bernice M. Crayton was born on a farm southwest of Concordia, KS to Walter and Mabel (Hogue) Doak. She passed from this life on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Salina Regional Medical Center, Salina, KS at the age of 89. Bernice attended grade school and graduated from high school in 1938. She married Walter "Junior" Crayton on Feb. 20, 1946 in Concordia, KS. He preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 2001. She and Junior lived in Oregon from 1942 until returning to Concordia in 1946. Bernice worked for J.C. Penney's for 5 years and then worked for Boogaart's Meat Warehouse for 20 years until her retirement in 1979. After their retirements, Bernice & Junior spent 21 winters in San Benito, TX and the summers in Oregon with family. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and VFW Post #588 Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her sons, Thomas Crayton and wife Bernie, La Grande, OR and Warren Crayton, Waldport, OR, 8 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter "Junior"; parents; son & daughter in law, Walter & Betty; daughter in law, Jeannie and 2 great grandsons. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor L. Dean Thompson officiating. Burial will follow the services at Morrison Cemetery, SW of Concordia, KS. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM, Wed., July 15, 2009 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
