Betty Lee Bray of Concordia, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society in Minneapolis. She was born near Glasco on March 26, 1923 to George and Matie (Gray) Nowels. Betty graduated from Glasco High School in 1941. She married Nile John Bray on September 28, 1941 at Glasco. During WWII, while her husband was serving in the United States Army, she was a PBX operator and worked in the civil service at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, worked with Northeast Wooden Ware in Tacoma, Washington, and returned home to manage Downings Dry Goods Store in Glasco when Nile was deployed to Europe. Betty was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Eastern Star. KU Basketball, playing cards, going to auctions, studying health books, and meeting with the Lady Bracknell Red Hat Club were her greatest joys.
Betty is survived by her 3 children, Bill Bray and wife Ileta of Grove, Oklahoma, Bob Bray and wife Debi of San Diego, California, Shari Bray of Concordia; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Nile on May 28, 2001; and 7 brothers and sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, March 31, 2014 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia with Pastor Michele McHenry officiating. Interment will be in the Glasco Cemetery at Glasco. Visitation will be held from 1 to 6 PM Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Ottawa County Health Center or the Good Samaritan Society in Minneapolis. Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia is in charge of arrangements.
