Betty Jean Mendenhall, 78, Concordia, Kansas died Sunday, December 27, 2009 at the Park Villa Nursing Home in Clyde, Kansas. She was born September 28, 1931 in Concordia, Kansas to Raymond F. and Margaret M. (Chartier) Waite. She was a lifetime resident of the Concordia area. Betty was a homemaker and a member of the Moose, VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries, and Our Lady of Perpetual help Catholic Church. She enjoyed baking, bingo, camping, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and crocheting. Most of all Betty enjoyed all her grandchildren. On December 10, 1951 Betty married Everett P. Mendenhall who preceded her in death in 1993. She was also preceded in death by her brother Raymond "Sonny" Waite and her sister Sharon K. Weaver. Survivors include her son Everett R. Mendenhall, Concordia; grandchildren Everett "Andy" Mendenhall, Hutchinson, Aaron Mendenhall, Taelor Mendenhall, and Hunter Mendenhall all of Concordia; sisters Dorothy Langston, Newton, Phyllis Morrison and husband A.K., Carrollton, Mississippi, Dixie Burchfiel, Concordia, and Donna Lawrence and husband Roy, Concordia; brother Jerry Waite and wife Lorna, Salina; many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas with Father Barry Brinkman officiating. Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia. Visitation Wednesday 1 -8pm with family greeting friends from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart & Lung Association or to the family.
