Carl D. Hobbie was born on July 22, 1924 in Tipton, KS to George & Mayme (Sackhoff) Hobbie. He died on Sat., Nov. 19, 2011 at Mount Joseph Senior Village, Concordia, KS at the age of 87. Carl graduated from Osborne High School and attended Grand Island School of Business. Carl was a self employed general contractor/carpenter. Carl married Norma Davenport on 11 -27 -1947 in Beloit, KS, who preceded him in 2006. He was also preceded in death by his son, Tracy James Hobbie in 1963, parents, one sister & 3 brothers. He served in the US Navy as a Seaman 1st Class on the USS Bremerton during WWII. He was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church, where he served on church council, was a Sunday School teacher and assisted with a host of various church activities, projects and served as a Scout leader. He was a member of St. John's Masonic Lodge #113 AF & AM. Carl later married Shirley (Fisk) Laman on 11 -18 -2006. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Laman -Hobbie, Concordia, KS; son: Gary Hobbie & wife LaVeda, Salina, KS; daughter: Barbara Mock & husband Roger, Lincoln, NE; grandchildren: Brandon Mock & wife Trista, Overland Park, KS, Tim Mock & wife Terelle, Lawrence, KS & Vanessa White & husband Nick, Wichita, KS; great grandchildren: Trey & Sadie Mock, Overland Park, KS & Ashley Mock, Lawrence, KS & several nieces & nephews. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM, Sat., Dec. 3, 2011 at Concordia Lutheran Church with Rev. David Strommen officiating and Military Honors by American Legion Post #76 & VFW Post #588 to follow the memorial services at the church. He selected cremation with inurnment at a later date. Friends may sign the register book from 9 AM to 9 PM with the family greeting friends from 7-8 PM Fri., Dec. 2, 2011 at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Concordia Lutheran Church or Meadowlark Hospice.
