, 1922 in
Omaha, Nebraska
to Carl P. and Frances Rose (Piatti) Stangel. He graduated from
Benson High School
, Omaha and attended
Creighton University
prior to
WWII
. He worked as a bookkeeper in Concordia for Fairmont Foods, Gillan's Bakery, and Cloud Ceramics. Carl served as a
U.S. Army
MP stationed at the POW camp, Concordia during WWII. He was honored by the
Boy Scouts of America
in 2006 fro 70 years in scouting...serving as a scout, eagle scout, leader, and scout master. He received every award possible in scouting of his 73 year membership. Carl was well known to
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church
, dedicated to serving the parish in a variety of liturgical positions. Casey was an avid and accomplished tournament golfer and baseball player and had coached several youth teams over the years. He was a member of the
American Legion
and lifetime member of DAV. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary Jane in 2006; and his brother George. He will be forever remembered by his daughters, Karla Prickett, Susan L'Ecuyer and husband David of
Salina, KS
, Mary Snyder and husband Gary, Seward, NE, and Denise Lahodny and husband Bill, Concordia; his sons, Michael Stangel and wife Judy, Salina, and Tim Stangel and wife Janice, Concordia; twelve grandchildren and nine Great-grandchildren.
A vigil service will be at 7:00 PM, Monday at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home,
Concordia, Kansas
. Friends may call from 9-9 PM Monday at the funeral home. A 10:00 AM funeral mass will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Our lady of Perpetual Help Church, Concordia with the Rev. Larry Letourneau officiating. Burial will be in St. Concordia Cemetery, Concordia. The family will designate memorials at a later date.
