Obituary

Carl M. Swenson, 97 years of age, of Concordia, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Mount Joseph Senior Village in Concordia. He was born on October 20, 1914 in Cloud County to John S. and Ida G. ( Anderson ) Swenson. Carl graduated from Concordia High School in 1933. He married Wilma E. Anderson on December 28, 1941 in Concordia. She preceded him on October 5, 1988. Carl served his country in the United States Army from February 28, 1942 to October 31, 1945 in North Africa and the European Theatre. He married Maryln Anspaugh on October 23, 1993 in Concordia. Carl was a farmer, raised registered herefords with his brother Emil, was a founder of the Cloud County Coop, and was active in various roles including a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at The Baptist Church.

Carl is survived by his wife Maryln; son, Loren Swenson and wife Joyce of Concordia; daughter, Loretta White and husband Terry of Shawnee; step sons, Wade Cooper and wife Sandy of Ashland, NE, Mark Cooper of Russell; step daughters, Dixie Riedel and husband Phil of Kensington, Judy Coats of Lincoln; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; 12 step great grandchildren; sister, Violet Jones of Concordia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; brothers, Reynold, Harold, Emil, Melvin; and a sister, Blossom Harrington.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, March 1, 2012 in The Baptist Church in Concordia with Rev. David Fabarez officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Concordia. Military Graveside Rites will be provided by American Legion Post #76 and VFW Post #588. Visitation will be held from noon to 9 PM Wednesday, February 29, 2012 with family greeting friends from 7 – 8 PM in the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia. Memorials are suggested to The Baptist Church in Concordia in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be left online at www.chaputbuoy.com .
