Cecil R. Runyan, 93 years of age, of Concordia, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka . He was born in Richardson County , Nebraska on July 23, 1918 to Charles Arthur and Edith May (Roper) Runyan. Cecil served his country in the United States Army during WWII from February 4, 1941 to November 14, 1945. While enlisted, Cecil participated in 3 major campaigns in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Cecil married Ruth Barleen in Concordia on February 28, 1946. He was an owner and operator of Ken's TV and Appliance with Ken Holechek.

Cecil is survived by 2 sons, Dennis Runyan of Kansas City, MO, Bradley Runyan and wife Jamie of Topeka; a granddaughter, Kristin Runyan of Topeka; 3 grandsons, Randy Runyan and wife Kimberly of Lincoln, NE, Adam Runyan, Jonathan Runyan and wife Jenna, both of Topeka; 2 great grandchildren, Emma and Thomas; former daughter in law, Kay Runyan of Lincoln, NE; sister in law, Joan Barleen of Concordia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth on June 4, 2004; 2 sisters, Hazel Beavers, Ruby Osborne; and 2 brothers, Vernon and Caroll.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 8, 2012 at The Baptist Church in Concordia with Rev. David Fabarez officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Concordia with Military Rites by American Legion Post #76 and VFW Post #588. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM Wednesday, March 7, 2012 in the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia. Memorials are suggested to the Midland Hospice House in Topeka in care of the funeral home.
