Charles L. "Chuck" McDaniel was born on Feb. 19, 1929 in

to Lester L. & Mae E. (Smullin) McDaniel.
He died on Fri., Jan. 13, 2012 at his residence in
Concordia

KS
.
He attended Dist. 11 school and graduated from
Concordia
High School
in 1948.
He moved with his parents to
Oakley
,
KS
and worked with his father at the Oakley Marble and Granite Co. until being drafted in the US Army in 1951.
He married Phyllis Ann Wolkensdorfer on Feb. 25, 1951 in
Oakley
,
KS
.
After he served a tour of duty in
Germany
, he was discharged from the Army and began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone as a lineman.
They returned to Concordia in 1962 and Chuck worked as a switchman for the telephone company until his retirement in 1989 after 36 years.
After the death of his father in 1969, Chuck purchased the McDaniel Memorial Co. and operated it until selling to his grandson in 2004.
He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, American Legion Post #76 & Moose Lodge #1428 all of Concordia.
He also was a member of the Amateur Radio Club, Coin Club, Telephone Pioneers and the Monument Builders Assoc., where he served as President.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ann, Concordia, KS; daughters, Dara Linton & husband Richard, Osborne, KS, Lori Hess & husband Mike, Cedar Falls, IA, Erin Oertel & husband Steve, Goddard, KS, Kelli Spear & husband Mark, Concordia, KS & Jona McDaniel, Concordia, KS; brother, William "Bill" McDaniel & wife Phyllis, Santa Maria, CA; sister, Phyllis Gridley, Wichita, KS; 9 grandchildren & 16 great grandchildren.. He was preceded in death by his parents & sister, Betty Bullington.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Mon, Jan. 16, 2012 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia with Rev. Barry Brinkman officiating.
Visitation will be from 1-8 PM and a Vigil service at 6:30 PM, Sun. at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
Burial will follow the services at St. Concordia Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post #76 & VFW Post #588.
The family suggests memorials to the church.
