Obituary

Charles Raymond Willis was born Mary 17, 1917 in Downs, KS to James & LaVeta Woodcock Willis. He was known to all at Raymond, Ray, Dad, Granddad, Great Granddad & Great Great Granddad. He died Friday, March 2, 2007 while a resident at Cheyenne Lodge Nursing Home in Jamestown, KS. He married Angie Roberta DeBay on Nov. 29, 1941 in Tonganoxie, KS. They had one son; Ronald Ray Willis born on March 8, 1943. Raymond graduated from Downs High School in 1935 and Kansas Wesleyan College of Salina in 1941. Upon his graduation from college he was hired on the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a fireman and later an engineer, like his father. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Concordia, a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers & Fireman. He and Angie were very strong charter members of the Cloud County Community College T-Bird Athletic Booster Club. They have had the same seats at Cloud County Community College games and the National Junior College Basketball Tournament in Hutchinson for over 30 years.  He is survived by his wife, Angie of the home; son, Ron Willis & wife Karen of Jewell, KS; grandchildren; James Willis & wife Anita of Hutchinson, KS, Sara Willis McKissick & Hus. Pat of Matthews, NC, Ward Willis & wife Nikki of Halstead, KS, Amy Wendell & Hus. Jerry of Simpson, KS, Brenda Foster of McPherson, KS, Joy Wentling & Hus. Wade of McPherson, KS; Great Grandchildren; Ryan, Luke & Daniel Willis of Hutchinson, KS, Caroline & Lilly McKissick of Matthews, NC, Noah & Kinsey Davidson of Halstead, KS, Nathan & Brylee Willis of Halstead, KS, Katie, Kristopher & Kanean Wendell of Hays, KS, Amayi Wendell of Simpson, KS, Ben Kruse & wife Shantel of McPherson, KS, Spencer Foster of McPherson, KS, Kimberly Shamburg of Manhattan, KS, Erica Wentling of Emporia, KS, Amber Whitehill & Hus. Drew of Manhattan, KS, Josh & Sam Wentling, McPherson, KS.  Great Great Grandchildren; Adam & Noah Pena of Hays, KS, Lanie Whitehill of Manhattan, KS.  He was preceded in death by his parents & granddaughter, Tammy Jane Shamburg.  Services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Monday, March 5, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church, Concordia, KS.  Visitation will be from 2 PM to 9 PM Sunday, March 4, 2007 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home where the family will be greeting friends from 6-7 PM Sunday.  Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.  The family has requested memorials to the Cloud County Community College T-Bird Booster Club or the First United Methodist Church.
