C.J. "Cork" Widen was born on June 24, 1929 in Concordia, Kansas to Clarence L. and Leota L. Hammer Widen. He passed from this life at his residence in Concordia, Kansas at the age of 78. He attended Sibley Rural Grade School and graduated from Concordia High School in 1947. He married Nancy LaBarge who preceded him in death. He married Marge Schugart on May 13, 1967 in Timken, KS. She survives the home. He served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict for 4 years. He worked for Kansas Power and Light and later Centel, retiring as a Division manager in 1991. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #588 and American Legion Post #76. He was a member of the former Concordia Country Club and Moose Lodge #1428 all of Concordia. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He is survived by his wife, Marge, Concordia, KS; sons, Jeff Widen and wife Lisa and Jack Widen and wife Michelle, both of Concordia, KS; daughters, Jill Stortz, Concordia, KS and Jennifer Poncsak and Hus. Steve, Atlanta, GA; sister, Clarice Pruitt and Hus. Paul, Miltonvale, KS; grandchildren, Kait and Chris Poncsak, Atlanta, GA, Logan and McKenzie Widen, Crockett Stortz, Christian and Anna Widen all of Concordia, KS. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy; his parents; 2 brothers, Max and Merle "Bud" Widen. Services will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, KS with Rev. Barry Brinkman officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM Mon., Feb. 4, 2008 with the family greeting friends from 6-8 PM at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Burial will follow the services at St. Concordia Cemetery, Concordia, KS with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post #76 and VFW Post #588. The family suggests memorials to Meadowlark Hospice or Friends Who Care Relay For Life.
