Clarice Evelyn Barger, 98, of Clyde, KS, passed away on Sun, Feb. 7, 2010 at Community Care Home, Clifton, KS. She was born on June 8, 1911 on the family farm in Clifton Township, Washington Co., KS, the daughter of Emanuel Erickson & Edith (Peterson) Erickson. Clarice was confirmed in the Brantford Covenant Church at the age of 13, and was a member of the church at the time of her death. She attended Marcotte Grade School and Clyde High School. The day after the bombing at Pearl Harbor, she left for Denver, CO to work in a defense plant. When the plant closed, she worked for Bradford Robinson Printing Plant, Newsletters Ready to Wear Store and for Sears Roebuck making signs for the store. She was married to James H. Barger in 1949. The marriage ended in divorce. In 1968, Clarice moved back to Clyde to care for her aging parents. Following the death of her parents in 1971, she purchased a house in Clyde, remaining there until 2005 when she moved to Community Care Home in Clifton. She is survived by her brother: Lloyd Erickson & wife Vivian, Clyde, KS; sisters: Gwendolyn Stevenson, Wichita, KS & Geneva Denholm, Manhattan, KS; nephew: Tom Erickson, Clifton, KS; nieces: Janet Jones, Belleville, KS; Carol Sue Blecha, Belleville, KS & Margaret Raymond, Wichita, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents & an infant brother . Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, Feb. 12, 2010 at the Brantford Evangelical Covenant Church, Clyde, KS with Rev. Russell Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow the services at the Brantford Covenant Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-8 PM Thurs., Feb. 11 at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde, KS. The family suggests memorials to the Brantford Covenant Church in care of the funeral home.
