Obituary

Darwin Arvidale Erickson was born July 12, 1917 in Norway, Kansas to Sven Iver and Lela Fern Ainsworth Erickson.  He was the oldest of 5 children.  He passed from this life on April 5, 2008 at Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, KS.  When he was 5 years old the family moved to Concordia, where he received his schooling and graduated from Concordia High School with the class of 1935.  Following graduation, he was employed for several years as a route man for Gillan Bakery.  He married Marguerite Bramwell at the First Presbyterian Church, Concordia, KS on September 14, 1938.  He worked for Loose- Wiles Biscuit Company as a salesman for a short time prior to serving in the US Army form 1943-1946.  He started his career in the insurance field by working as an adjuster under the GI Bill for two years and was then employed by Central Security and Insurance Corp., Kansas City, MO.  In 1951 he was employed as a special agent and then branch manager of Iowa Home Mutual Casualty Company for the Kansas office at Topeka.  In 1960, Arvidale had the opportunity to join R.M. Bays in his insurance office in Concordia, KS.  In 1971, the Bays-Erickson Agency and the Busby-Swiercinsky Agency merged forming a very successful partnership.  Arvidale spent over 40 years in the insurance field, retiring in 1988 after the agency was sold.  He was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church, a 50 year membe of Seloam Masonic Lodge #225 of Topeka, KS, Life Member of VFW Post #588, and Cloud County Historical Society.  He was proud of his Swedish heritage and enjoyed his association with the Ada Lutheran Church since he was a child.  He is survived by hs wife of 69 years, Marguerite Erickson, Concordia, KS; Sister: Donna Marie O'Sullivan, Mesa, AZ; Nephews: Larry Erickson and wife Susan, Phoenix, AZ; David Erickson, Concordia, KS; Eric Erickson and wife Jill, Colleyville, TX; and Michael O' Sullivan, Sioux City, IA. Niece: Dana Cunningham, Topeka, KS; Several Cousins and Alma Erickson.  He was preceded in death by parents, Brothers: John Leland, Loren Joe, and Elden B. Erickson.   Services will be at 10:30AM Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church, Concordia, KS with Rev. Helen Moore Schroeder officiating.  Visitation will be from 9AM to 9PM Tuesday at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home with the famliy receiving friends from 6-8.  Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, KS.  The family suggests memorials to the First Presbyterian Church or American Diabetes Association.
