Damian C. Nobert was born on July 21, 1920 to Armel P. Nobert, Sr. and Susie (Berger) Nobert on a farm near Ames, Kansas. He passed from this life on Friday, September 5, 2008 at the age of 88. He married Fedora Mae Gagna on Dec. 12, 1944 at the Catholic Cathedral in Concordia, KS. They were privileged to celebrate 63 1/2 years of married life together. He graduated from Air Force Technical school as an Airplane Mechanic in Lincoln, NE in 1943. The Air Force then sent him and his wife to Bluethenthal Air Field in Wilmington, NC. They resided there until he was sent overseas. He served overseas with the 34th Fighter Squadron, 8th Air Force Division on Ryuku Island (I.E. Shima). He was discharged as an Air Force Staff Sargent on Jan. 17, 1946. Upon returning home, he farmed in the Ames area for 2 years. He then became employed with the local light company as an apprentice lineman. He later was promoted to line foreman. He retired from Centel Power & Light on July 1986 after 38 years of service. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and Local Union 304 for over 50 years. He was a lifelong Cloud County and Concordia area resident. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1124 for 70 years. He served as Grand Knight and Past Navigator of 4th Degree. He also served 2 terms as District Deputy #17. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #588, serving the post over 62 years. As Post Commander, he implemented the Avenue of Flags program with the help of WWI veterans and WWI mothers, WWI Barracks, Comrades of WWII, officers of VFW Post #588 and the Ladies Auxiliary. He was a former Boy Scout Leader for Pack #32 and a Asst. Troop Leader of Troop #31. He also was a Boy Scout Dist. Representative for Boy Scouts of America. He also was a member of the Historical Society and AARP. He is survived by his wife, Fedora, Concordia; daughter, Carolyn Brzon and husband Brian, Republic, KS; sons, Dennis and wife Leanna, Bruce and wife Robin all of Phoenix, AZ and Galen and wife Becky, Salina, KS; brother, Larry Nobert and wife Linda, Concordia, KS; sisters, Geraldine Holscher and husband Floyd, Salina, KS and Teresa Feight and husband Gene, Clyde, KS; 8 grandchildren, Adam, Matt, Ryan & Emily Nobert, Brett & Brock Brzon, Nicholas & Darren Nobert and 2 great grandchildren, Addison & Kalee Nobert. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant children, Janice Elaine and Gary Charles; sisters, Helen Morgan, Bernadette Anderson and Marie Nobert; brothers, Dick, Armel P., Jr. and James Nobert and infant brothers, Joe and Frank Nobert. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Tues., Sept. 9, 2008 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia with Rev. Barry Brinkman officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM with Vigil Services at 6:30 PM and a Rosary lead by the Knights of Columbus following the Vigil Service, all Mon., Sept. 8, 2008 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia. Burial will follow the services at St. Concordia Cemetery, Concordia with Military Honors conducted by Ft. Riley and VFW Post #588. The family suggests memorials to the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging, St. Concordia Cemetery or the Donor's Choice.
