Darrell K. Sharpe was born on Aug. 12, 1924 in Agenda, KS to Charles S. & Ruth C. (Lundeen) Sharpe. He passed from this life on Mon., Nov. 22, 2010 at the Clay County Hospital, Clay Center, KS at the age of 86. Darrell graduated from Agenda High School in 1942. He then attended Kansas Wesleyan for 1 year before joining the V-12 Program as an Ensign and serving the US Navy on an LCT for 3 years during WWII. When he returned home, he graduated from Kansas State University in 1949 and then came back to the Clyde area to farm until his retirement at age 80. He married Dorothy Houghton on Dec. 10, 1950 at the United Methodist Church in Jamestown, KS. Darrell was a member of the United Methodist Church, Clyde; VFW #7515, Clyde, where he served on the firing squad; American Legion Post #76, Concordia, Clyde Lions Club; Ophel Chp. #115 Eastern Star Belle; St. John's Masonic Lodge #113, Concordia & the Clyde Co. Historical Society. Darrell enjoyed music and singing with his brother, Buford in quartets at various venues and especially at the Baptist Church in Clyde. He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Sharpe, Clyde, KS; son: Gregory Sharpe, Clyde, KS; daughters: Angela Fanshier & husband Randy, Great Bend, KS, Lori Tremblay & husband Mike, Salina, KS & Teri Hayes & husband Brian, Ft. Collins, CO; grandchildren: Ryan Fanshier (Kristin), Matt Fanshier (Julie), Luke Fanshier, Dr. Travis Sharpe (Heather), Nick Sharpe (Jade), Carrie Roth (Jon), Eric Tremblay & Brenna & Maggie Hayes; great grandchildren: Cole & Emma Fanshier, Cooper Fanshier & Gabriel Sharpe. He was preceded in death by his parents & brother, Buford Sharpe. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Sat., Nov. 27, 2010 at the United Methodist Church of Clyde with Rev. Anita Strommen officiating. Visitation will be from 11 AM to 8 PM with the family greeting friends from 6-8 PM, Friday at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde. Burial will follow the services at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Clyde with Military Honors by VFW Post #7515 & Masonic graveside services by St. John's Lodge #113 AF & AM. The family suggests memorials to the Clyde Ambulance Fund, United Methodist Church of Clyde or the Clyde Senior Citizen's Center.
