David E. Carlgren was born on August 28, 1937, in Concordia, Kansas, to Carrol and Gladys (Axelton) Carlgren. He began his education in a one-room schoolhouse before graduating from Concordia High School in 1955, where he excelled in long-distance track and earned a varsity letter. He was especially proud to have been recruited by the Kansas State University track team—a distinction he ultimately declined in order to remain home and work on the family farm.

On December 28, 1958, he married Sharon Anderson of Courtland, Kansas, after the two met on a blind date—a beginning that grew into a lifelong partnership filled with love and devotion.

David was a lifelong farmer and rancher, working side by side with Sharon to build a life rooted in hard work, faith, and family. He was a founding member of the Concordia Lutheran Church along with his family. He had a deep love for the land and for caring for his livestock, especially cattle, sheep and his horses. For over 30 years, he sheared thousands of sheep for many farmers throughout Kansas and Nebraska. He found great joy in the outdoors and looked forward each year to hunting season, particularly deer and pheasant.

He was a man who believed strongly in giving back. David was a dedicated supporter and leader in 4-H and an active member of the NCK Saddle Club. His commitment to his community was evident through his service on numerous local boards, including the Cloud County Co-op, Cloud County Farm Bureau, and the Cloud County Community College Ag Board. Through these roles, he quietly made a lasting impact on the people and places he cared about most.

Above all, David treasured his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon; his daughter, Tammy (Carlgren) Bouchér, son-in-law Joel Bouchér, and grandchildren Alex and Eric Bouchér, all of Wichita, Kansas; his son, Terry Carlgren of Tampa, Florida, his brother Carl Carlgren of Scandia, KS, many nieces, nephews and cousins and his faithful Border Collie, Zippy. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Arthur Carlgren, and his sister Doris Carlgren.

He will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, and willingness to help a neighbor in need, as well as for his mischievous streak, which brought laughter to those around him. Most of all, he will be remembered for the deep love he shared with the family and friends who meant the most to him.

Visitation will be from 1-8 pm on Thursday, March 19, 2026, with the family greeting friends from 6-8 pm all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Friday, March 20, 2026, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Concordia, KS with Pastor Delvin Strecker officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.
