Obituary

David Joe Fellows was born at Smith Center, KS on Oct. 24, 1955. He was the youngest of four children born to the union of John & Masel (Overmiller) Fellows. When David was fourteen days old, the family discovered that he would have special needs. In 1962, when David was seven years old, the family left the farming community of Thornburg, KS and moved to Concordia, KS. One of the main reasons for the move was so David could attend school. This was a complete lifestyle change for the family and one they never regretted. David attended school at Garfield until he was seventeen years old. David was one of the first employees at COR Industries, a sheltered workshop that opened in 1974. He also was on the crew that worked at MC Industries in Belleville where he learned to operate five different machines. David worked at COR for over thirty years. He loved his job and enjoyed learning new skills. He formed lifelong relationships with the OCCK employees and consumers. David loved the holidays especially Halloween and Christmas. He made sure that the proper decorations were in place and that tradition was followed. He enjoyed having family gatherings & his enthusiasm was contagious. David had a large collection of movies. He loved country music and was quite knowledgeable on the older performers and songs. David went to the library every week and also purchased his favorite country magazine whenever it came out. He enjoyed hearing his father, uncle and other family members play and sing. He would remind us if a song was played that he had heard them sing. He never went to many days without mentioning his Dad of uncle Jim. David was a "people person", he never knew a stranger and he didn't forget anything or anyone. He also enjoyed his time alone and would encourage his mom to attend bingo so she would bring him a hot dog. He was happy living at home with his mom and performed many tasks on a daily basis. Dave was very affectionate, gave great hugs and loved to dance. He touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed by friends and family. He was preceded in death by his father, John. He is survived by his mother: Masel Fellows, Concordia, KS; sister: Phyllis Grotz, Concordia, KS; brothers: Bill Fellows & wife Cindy, Concordia, KS & John Fellows & wife Marylu, Concordia, KS. Dave's uncles & aunts; John & Joan Overmiller of Smith Center, KS, Roy & Elinor Wiles of West Fork, AR & John & Lorretta Saunders, Hutchinson, KS; and nine nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Wed., Nov. 18, 2009 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Lambert & Pastor L. Dean Thompson officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM with family greeting friends from 6-8 PM Tues., Nov. 17, 2009 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Burial will follow the services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the David Fellows Memorial in care of the funeral home.
