Obituary

Dr. Dean "Doc" James Blackwood, D.C. 83, Clyde, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007 in Salina KS. Dr. Blackwood was born May 4, 1923 in rural Miltonvale, KS to George and Jenny Doig Blackwood. He graduated from Miltonvale High School and Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, IA. He married Madeleine Kegle on Aug. 21, 1947 in Clyde, KS. He was a Chiropractor in Concordia, KS for 40 years. He was a proud WWII Veteran and a member of the Army Air Corp. 27 th Bombardment Squadron Staff Sergeant. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and past Commander and Chaplain, a lifetime member of the American Legion in Clifton, KS, a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge in Concordia, KS serving as past Governor and was on the ritual team for 19 years, a member of the 4 th Degree of the Knights of Columbus in Clyde, KS, and a member of the Elks Lodge of Clay Center, KS, and also served on the school board in Clyde, KS for USD 224. He was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church and enjoyed being active in many other community activities, including his grandchildren. He also had a pilot's license and enjoyed going on afternoon flights when he was younger. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Jennie Blackwood, twin brother Don, and infant brother Lawrence, 1 granddaughter, and 2 great granddaughters. Survivors include his wife, Madeleine (Kegle) of 59 years. Six sons –– Larry of Clyde, KS; Gary of Solider, KS; Dr. Terry Blackwood, Clyde, KS; Dr. D. Jay and wife Amy of Westmoreland, KS; Dr. Brad and wife Alisha of Clyde, KS; and Lance and wife Cindy of Aurora, CO. Six daughters –– Sonja Risetter and husband Bill of Junction City, KS; De Roth and husband Allen of Hays, KS; Christine Lawson and husband Randy of Agenda, KS; Debbie Blackwood of Clyde, KS; Karla Weatherhead of Belleville, KS; Jackie Brooks and husband Wayne of Winfield, KS. One sister, Wanda Hafner and husband Wayne of Clay Center. Three brothers: Dr. George (Bill) and wife Wanda of Muscatine, IA; Dr. Kenneth (Jack) Blackwood of Clay Center; Rex and wife Mary Kay of Miltonvale, KS; 31 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Sat., March 24, 2007 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde, KS. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 5 PM Fri., March 23, 2007 at Chaput Mortuary and after 6 PM at the church. A Parish Rosary will be said at 4 PM, Fri., at Chaput Mortuary and Vigil services will be held at 7 PM Fri. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with a Knights of Columbus Rosary immediately following the vigil. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Clyde, KS with Military honors conducted by VFW Post #7515 & American Legion Post #227.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mount Calvary Cemetery Fund.
