Don "Shorty" Sorell was born near St. Joseph, KS on March 12, 1934 to Wilcid & Edna (Fief) Sorell. He passed from this life on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009 at Mercy Health Center, Manhattan, KS at the age of 75. Shorty attended country schools near St. Joseph, KS and then Clyde High School. He married Phillis Begnoche on Sept. 19, 1953 in Clyde, KS. She preceded him on Sept. 9, 2000. Shorty was the Parts Manager and a salesman for Stenberg Motors in Clyde for nearly 45 years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church & the Knights of Columbus of Clyde. He also was a former member of the ELKS Club & Moose Lodge #1428. He is survived by his sons: Dr. Brian Sorell & wife Colette, Overland Park, KS, Phil Sorell & wife Rhonda, St. George, KS, Derek Sorell, Salina, KS & Dr. Sean Sorell & wife Lisa, Manhattan, KS; brother: Jerry Sorell & wife Kathleen, Clyde, KS; grandchildren: Jason Sorell & wife Holly, Manhattan, KS, James Sorell & wife Sarah, Olathe, KS, Melissa Shinkle & husband Jerry, Olathe, KS, Matthew Sorell & wife Fiord, Hannibal, MO, Danielle Sorell, Lawrence, KS, Ryan Sorell, Ft. Scott, KS, Joshua Sorell, Topeka, KS, Houston Sorell, Manhattan, KS, Chantry Sorell, Manhattan, KS & Lane & Isaac Sorell, Manhattan, KS; great grandchildren: Leah & Lillie Sorell, Olathe, KS, Abbie & Asher Sorell, Olathe, KS, Kaitlynn Shinkle, Olathe, KS & Mia, Eva & Lucas Sorell, Hannibal, MO. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phillis; parents & sister, Donna M. McChesney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Friday, Aug. 28, 2009 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde with Rev. Larry Letourneau officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 8 PM with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 PM, Thurs. Aug. 27, 2009 at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde. Burial will follow the services at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Clyde. The family suggests memorials to the Phillis Sorell Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
