Obituary

Donald "The Doctor", "Squirrelly", Willbrant age 68, of Clyde, died August 28, 2007, at the home of Ed and Luanne Willbrant in Clifton, KS.  He was born on March 8, 1939, on the Willbrant homestead in Washington, KS.  He was the son of Ed Willbrant and Margaretie Bond-Stratton.  He attended Emmons 1 room grade school and 3 years at Eureka grade school.  He graduated from Washington High School in 1959.  He attended boot camp in 1959 at Ft. Hood, Texas and then to Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri.  He then went to Fairbanks, Alaska for heavy equipment training.  He was stationed as a Spec 5 engineer in 18th engineers Army division.  He wore a teddy bear patch and was a heavy equipment operator.  Six of the 18 months in Alaska, he spent in the field in tents.  In 1962 he was stationed with the Big Red One 1st Army division out of Ft. Riley and while at Ft. Bennington, Georgia he operated a bulldozer with the ammunition company.  He worked from 1962-1967 with a sub contractor for Construction contractors all over Kansas.  He worked on I-70 from Salina to Ellis where he operated a Michigan rubber tired dozer.  On August 14, 1967, he started Willbrant Construction where he operated a D6, D4 dozer, paddle scraper, motor grader and a Terex scraper.  He built the football field and track at Clyde and the city lagoon at Miltonvale.  In 1973, he moved Willbrant Construction to a farm he bought near Clyde, KS.  He share cropped the Clyde farm to Greg Peterson and the Washington farm to Leroy Long.  He was a member of the National Rifleman's Assoc., Clyde Chamber of Commerce where he served as president for 1 year, Kansas Conservation Contractor of America, Hunters Safety Education Instructor and a member of Brantford Covenant Church since 1984.  In 1964, he married Judy Brungardt, to this union were born two sons, Edward and David.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul.  He is survived by his sons, Edward Willbrant and wife Luanne, Clifton, KS and Dave Willbrant and wife Jennifer, Hollenberg, KS; five grandchildren, Dillon Willbrant, Phillip and Joshua Mueller, Kileab Willbrant and Carly Crome; sister, Marge Hatasohl, Greenleaf, KS and an uncle, Otis Bond, Avoca, NE.  Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 3, 2007 at Brantford Covenant Church, Clyde, Kansas.  Visitation will be held from 2-8 PM, Sunday, September 2, 2007 at Chaput Mortuary.  Burial will follow the services at Washington City Cemetery, Washington, Kansas will Military Graveside honors conducted by Fort Riley.  The family suggest memorials to Brantford Covenant Church or Meadowlark Hospice.
