Obituary

Donald "Don" Kerr, 88 years of age, of Concordia, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia. He was born on February 25, 1923 in Lincoln to Claude and Leota (Bollier) Kerr. In 1937, Don moved to Concordia with his family after his family was transferred with the Santa Fe Railroad. Don married Georgia Mae Noyes on August 23, 1941. Don worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and the Prisoner of War Camp until joining the United States Marines. He served his country during WWII in the 4 th Marine Division in the South Pacific from March 22, 1944 to March 13, 1946. Don and Georgia owned Kerr's Grocery in Concordia for 18 years. After selling the store, he began an antique car restoration shop at the Prisoner Of War Camp Site.


Don is survived by his daughters, Donna Huffman and husband Larry of Haysville, Mary Fate of Overland Park; grandchildren, Don Fate and wife Diana, Denise Ballard and husband Mike, Dennis Huffman and wife Lori, Debbie White, Bill Fate and wife Robyn, Bruce Fate and wife Kristi; great grandchildren, Bryce, Alyssa and Katlyn Ballard, Zachary and Mallory Fate, Dalan and Kyra White, Kerby Huffman, Savannah and Karli Fate, Riley and Delaney Fate; a brother, Claude Kerr of Downing, California; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Georgia Kerr on May 29, 2010; one brother; and 3 sisters.


Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, November 21, 2011 in The Wesleyan Church in Concordia with Rev. David Redmond officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Concordia with military rites by the American Legion Post #76 and VFW Post #588. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 PM Sunday, November 20, 2011 with family greeting friends from 5 – 6 PM in the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Prisoner Of War Camp Preservation or the Cloud County Historical Society in care of the funeral home.
