Dorothy K. Lawyer was born on June 27, 1912 on the farm near Lamar, Kansas in Ottawa Co. to George W. and Emma K. Shroyer Wiltse. She passed from this life on Monday, April 21, 2008 at Sunset Nursing Home in Concordia, Kansas at the age of 95. S he attended schools in rural Ottawa County and Miltonvale. She married Harry L. Lawyer on May 22, 1929 in Salina, KS. He preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 1965. During WWII she sold war bonds, worked O.P.A. price control and worked at Rite-Way Laundry and Modern Cleaners. She was a homemaker and sold Avon products for 15 years and won several awards. She later worked at the Hillside Motel for ten years until her retirement. She was a member of the VFW #588 Ladies Auxiliary, where she was the local president for two terms, served as the 6th Dist. President in 1965 and the Dept. of Kansas President in 1969. She was a charter member of Women of the Moose Lodge #1428 and served as an officer. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and was involved with Naomi Circle, Senior Women and WELCA. She also was a 4-H sewing leader and belonged to Friendly Neighbors EHU. She also was a former President of A.R.C. and P.T.A. She always enjoyed her family's traditional family Christmas and being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Brown and husband Loren, Bonner Springs, KS; brother, Warner Wiltse, Toledo, OH; sister, Geraldine Bennett, Longmont, CO; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren and 1 step great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; a daughter, Phyllis Erhardt; a son, John Lawyer; 3 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 25, 2008 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Concordia, KS. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home where the family will greet friends from 7-8 PM. Burial will follow the services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, KS. The family suggest memorials to the Concordia Lutheran Church or VFW Post #588 Ladies Auxiliary.
