Obituary

Dorothy Nelson St. Pierre, 92, Concordia, died Monday, March 28, 2011, at Sunset Nursing Center in Concordia. Dorothy St. Pierre was born March 26, 1919, in Cloud County to Lawrence and Mabel Olson Nelson.  She graduated from Concordia High School as valedictorian in 1936.  Dorothy worked at Metz Packing, later known as Seymours, as a bookkeeper. She married Warren St. Pierre, January 12, 1945, at The Baptist Church in Concordia. He preceded her on July 5, 1994.  For two years they lived in seven states while Warren worked for Westinghouse.  They returned to establish a farming operation in the Ames and Clyde area in 1947. She kept the records for the automated cattle feedlot, the registered Hereford cowherd, and their seed and irrigation equipment sales business. Dorothy was active in The Baptist Church, Kansas Farm Bureau, Kansas Cow Belles, Master Farmers and Homemakers, and Sunshine EHU.  Her leadership and honors introduced her to many friends while she traveled throughout Kansas, the United States and even Australia and Norway. Dorothy was interested in everyone around her:  clipping honors in newspapers, studying current events, and making sure that she voted in every election. Her interest in youth was demonstrated by her strong support for the building of the educational wing of The Baptist Church, by her serving as a Sunday School teacher and youth sponsor, and by her dedication to being at every baby or wedding shower. Survivors include a sister Elva and husband Vernon Holman, Apple Valley, MN; a brother-in-law Robert and wife Dolores St. Pierre, Ames; two sisters-in-law Eloise St. Pierre, Ames, and Helen St. Pierre, Newnan, GA; ten nieces:  Mary Ann and husband Kenneth Palmquist, Concordia, Joyce and husband Jim Coppoc, Concordia, Mary and husband Roger Kathol, Burnsville, MN, Ruth and husband Joe Fakler, Concordia, Beth and husband Mark Whisler, Concordia, Virginia and husband Gene Charbonneau, Concordia, Anne and husband Greg Tarbutton, Blowing Rock, NC, Sandra and husband Roger Sample, Garnett, Debra and husband Daryl One, Modesto, CA, and Karen and husband Burton Brack, Salina; two nephews: Walter St. Pierre, Clyde, and Eric and wife Debbie St. Pierre, Gilbert, AZ; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, Ruth Carlgren and Ruby St. Pierre, four brothers-in-law, Elmo St. Pierre, Harold St. Pierre, Keith St. Pierre and Wilson Carlgren. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, March 31, 2011, at The Baptist Church in Concordia with Rev. David Fabarez officiating.  Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia. Visitation will be held from 9 AM - 9 PM Wednesday, March 30, 2011, with family greeting friends from 7 - 8 PM in the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia. Memorials may be made to The Baptist Church, Sunset Home, or donor's choice with the funeral home in charge.
