Obituary

Our precious mother, Dottie Young, 97, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 20, 2008. She was in a Houston area hospital when she passed away. Although Dottie continued to maintain her home in Concordia, she had been living in Houston with her daughter Carol and Carol's husband, Charlie, for the last six years.

Dottie Hart was born November 4, 1910 in St. Louis , MO to Hilma and Ed Hart, and lived there until moving to Concordia in 1946 with her husband, Dave Young, and three children. Cloud Ceramics Brick Plant was just beginning and Dave had been hired as manager.

Dottie was blessed to be a full time homemaker and her life was centered around her home, her family and her church. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and over the years she was involved in Sunday school, playing piano for various children's choirs, Bible School , Mariners and women's club work. She was a member of the Ladies Literary Club, Christian Women's Club, now called Christian Women's Connection, and loved her Wednesday afternoon Bible study group.

Dottie had a heart for God and lived her faith daily. She prayed for her family, friends, religious and political leaders and for our country. She was very patriotic and had deep concerns about the direction the United States was headed.

A very humble and naïve lady, Dottie was not as impressed by material things as she was a person's faith. She always looked for the good in people while demanding the best from herself. She was very generous with her time and resources and was always ready to help. Dottie was fortunate to enjoy good health into her mid-nineties and stayed interested in family activities, political issues and always her faith. She read the Bible daily.

Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dave, after 63 years of marriage, and her sister-in-law, Alice Mae Nelson. She also suffered the loss of two grandchildren – Kari Godbold Smith in 2001 and Michael David Young in 2006.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children, David and wife, Jeannette, of Lincoln, NE, Carol Godbold and husband, Charlie, of Houston, TX, Bill Young and wife, Joyce, of Wichita, KS, brother Russell J. Hart and wife, Marge, of Crestwood, MO, and brother-in-law William S. Nelson of Englewood, CO. She had one niece, Jean Meier, and three nephews, John Nelson, John Hart and Dennis Hart.

Dottie had nine grandchildren, (Kristi Richling of Omaha, NE, Sean Godbold of Houston, TX, Kim Goodale of Overland Park, KS, Stefan Stevenson Godbold of Ft. Worth, TX, Stephanie Bidnick, of Shawnee Mission, KS, Angela Kroeger of Omaha, NE, Stacia Williams of Wichita, KS, Brad Young of Goddard, KS, and Dixie Vanderwiele of Bella Vista, AK), and twenty great-grandchildren (Ashley, Tim and Tiffany Kennemer, Alexis and Addison Smith, David Godbold, Zach and Tyler Richling, Blake, Keaton, Cole and Luke Goodale, Emerson, Brady and Mayson Bidnick, Abigail and Emily Young, Makenna and Miles Williams, and one great-great-grandchild, Hayliegh Miller).

Dottie's funeral will be Wednesday, March 26 at 10:30 am at the First Presbyterian Church in Concordia. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery next to her husband. Pall Bearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law: Stefan Stevenson Godbold, Paul Richling, Michael Bidnick, Sean Goodale, Chris Williams and Sean Godbold. Her grandson, Pastor Bradley Young, will assist with her service.  Visitation will be from 9 AM to 9 PM, Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home where the family will greet friends from 7-8:30 PM.

There will be such a void left with her passing but we take comfort in knowing that what she believed her whole life has come true – she is with the Lord. Well done thy good and faithful servant. New Year's Eve will never be quite the same!
