Edwin John "Ed" Gillen, age 82, died on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Parkside Homes, Hillsboro, Kansas surrounded by his family. He was born on November 5, 1933 in Ogden, Kansas to Joseph Herman and Addie (Sable) Gillen.
Edwin graduated from St. Xavier's High School in Junction City, Kansas where he attended all 12 years. He married Marcelline T. Comeau, she preceded him in death on July 26, 2015. He worked at Townsend Retail in Junction City. Edwin entered the US Army in May of 1956 and was honorably discharged as a military policeman in May 1958. He then worked at J.M. McDonalds and then JC Penney's until he retired. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and Choir Member, Knights of Columbus, VFW associate. Most of all he was a great father to his five children.
He is survived by his son, Doug W. Comeau (Karen), Boerne, TX. ; daughters, Deanna Reed, Emporia, KS.; Deborah Istas (Rex), Killeen, TX.; Denise Barney (Gene), Tampa, KS.; sisters, Julia Lynn McCormick (Tom), Fort Collins, CO.; Teresa Ann (Alford) Ryan (Lynn), Abilene, KS.; 14 grandchildren, Mark, Laura, Lee, Dewane, Alan, Andrea, Janel, Stephen, Aaron, Alisha, Nathan, Jared, Zach, and Cailey; 11 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Brett, Gracie, Bryson, Landon, Athena, Orion, Luke, Alice, Brennon, and Hunter & 1 great-great granddaughter, Vivienne.
He was preceded in death by his one and only wife Marcelline, daughter, Donna Sue Comeau; his parents; sister, Mildred (Bud) Riles; brothers, Edgar (at birth), Jerry.
The family selected cremation and friends may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., Thursday, May 26, 2016. A Vigil Service followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m., Thurs., with family receiving friends after the Rosary all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
Memorial Mass of a Christian burial will be held Friday, 10:30 a.m., May 27, 2016 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Fr. Brian Lager officiating. Burial of the cremains for Edwin & Marcelline will follow in the St. Concordia Cemetery, Concordia. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #76 and VFW Post #588.
Memorial contributions may be given to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church or Parkside Homes of Hillsboro, Kansas c/o Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
