Eldon "Ike" Bergstrom, age 93, of Clyde, passed away on Thurs., Feb. 15, 2018 at Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde, KS.  He was born May 10, 1924 in Cuba, KS to Henry L. & Ethel May (McCracken) Bergstrom.

Ike graduated from Clyde High School and was a lifelong area resident.  He married Lillian "Gertrude" Dunphy on May 21, 1949 in Clyde and she preceded him on July 13, 2012.  They moved to Idaho for a few years to try their hand at potato farming, but eventually moved back to Clyde.  Ike managed the Clyde Co-Op Elevator for 25 years and farmed on the side.   He continued to farm after his retirement from the elevator in 1983 until he was unable due to his health.

He was a hard worker, tearing down numerous barns & houses in the Clyde area.  He eventually built his own home with help from his friends.  But his real passion was gardening!  He loved planting & growing one of the biggest gardens around, selling some in the beginning, but eventually just taking pride in what he had grown and giving most of it away to family & friends.  Ike also enjoyed a good competition in the 'Biggest Watermelon' for the Clyde Watermelon Festival where he won the competition at least once!

Ike is survived by his 4 children; Reggie Bergstrom (Cindy), Clyde; Denise Hickman (Dan), Portland, OR; Stan Bergstrom (Beth), Clyde & Joni Bergstrom (fiancé, Gary Letourneau), Jamestown; 12 grandchildren; Lacie, Lynelle, Loni, Lisa, Christine, Robert, Lauren, Reed, Ian, Jacob, Chandra, Brittney; 23 great grandchildren & 1 great great grandchild; brothers; Clair Bergstrom (Arlene), Paul, ID, Lee Bergstrom (Betty), Clyde & Gene Bergstrom (Joyce), Pocatello, ID & several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude; his parents; infant twin daughters, Veronica and Monica; great grandson, Jace; sister, Alma Moore & brother, Leonard Bergstrom.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 am, Mon., Feb. 19, 2018 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde with Fr. Steven Heina officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Clyde.  Visitation will be Sun, Feb. 18, 2018 from 1-8 pm with the family greeting friends from 4-6 pm at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde.  The family suggests memorials to Park Villa Nursing Home in care of the funeral home.  For online condolences, please visit www.chaputbuoy.com.
