Obituary

Eleanor Christine Tyler, died July 20, 2011, in Leawood , Kansas .  She was 90.

Eleanor Christine Owens was born October 29, 1920, in Flatbush, Brooklyn , New York , the daughter of Albert Hart Owens and Selma Christine Johnson Owens.  Eleanor attended Public School in Brooklyn and then Girls' Commercial High School where she excelled in art and design courses.

Eleanor worked as a comparison shopper and showroom model.  Throughout World War II, she volunteered her evenings as an ambulance attendant and sold War Bonds, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Blue Star Brigade.

On December 30, 1945, she married William B. Tyler at Holy Cross parish, Brooklyn , New York .

The Tylers moved to Concordia , Kansas , in early 1946.  Eleanor became an accomplished homemaker and mother involved in many community activities.  She was a member of  the Altar Society, Improvement Club, and AO Chapter of PEO.  She worked for many years at the Bon Marche women's clothing store in Concordia.  Following her husband's death in 1983, she enrolled in a clerical course and then worked as a secretary at the Presbyterian Church.  Eleanor has also continued as a minority partner in the Concordia Blade-Empire for the past 28 years.

Eleanor is survived by her six children: sons James and wife, Martha, Concordia; Tom and Betty, St. Louis, MO; Robert and wife, Gwen, Winfield; Steven, and wife, Laura, Kansas City, MO; daughters, Christine and husband, James Klasinski, Kansas City, MO; and Anne Brumbaugh, Overland Park; a brother, Albert Owens, Conway, SC.  She is also survived by ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Danielle Morris, and husband, Robert, Chandler, AZ; Christopher Tyler, and wife, Laura, and their daughter, Mary Elizabeth, Winfield; Holly Brumbaugh and Ryan Wohlers, Shawnee; William K. Brumbaugh, Waco, TX, and fiancé, Klaire Mann, Manhattan; Kathryn Brumbaugh, Lawrence; James, Peter, and John Tyler, Concordia; and Mia and Lucia Tyler, Kansas City, MO.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Tyler, her parents, and her granddaughter, Alison Rose Tyler Alcalde.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 21, from 3 to 9 p.m. with an Altar Society Rosary at 5 PM and Vigil services at 6:30 PM all at the funeral home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, July 22, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Concordia, Rev. Barry Brinkman officiating.  Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery .  Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse or the Cloud County Historical Society Museum in Concordia.
