Esther (Sallman) Horting, age
102, died, Wed., Sept. 4, 2013 at the Community Care Home, Clifton.
She was born on April 3, 1911 in Republic
Co., KS to Edd & Eva (Hamil) Varnick.
She attended school in Norway,
KS.
She married Walter Sallman on Jan.
28, 1929 in Belleville, KS.
He preceded
her in death on April 21, 1974.
She
later married John Horting in Sept. of 1985.
He preceded her on May 29, 2003.
Esther was a homemaker, seamstress at the Singer Sewing Center, operated
her own café in Aurora, KS and worked at St. Mary's, all while raising ten
children.
She was a member of VFW #588
Auxiliary.
She is survived by her
daughters, Charla Mills & hus. Ronald, Pueblo, CO, Vivian Schwab,
Morganville, Eva Schwab, Clifton, Rita Begnoche, Salina & Melisa
Stolzenburg & hus. Mike, Ames; sons, Larry Sallman, Gary Sallman & Karl
Sallman & wife Debbie, all of Clifton; 36 grandchildren; 93 great
grandchildren & 41 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by
her husbands, Walter Sallman & John Horting; daughter, Lenora Thomas; son,
Frank Sallman; parents; grandchildren, Jason Schwab, Daniel & Walter Mills
& 1 great granddaughter, Emily Mills.
Funeral services will be at 10 am, Sat., Sept. 7, 2013 at Concordia Lutheran Church with Rev. David Strommen officiating. Burial will follow the services at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, NE of Norway, KS. Visitation will be from 11 am to 9 pm with family greeting friends from 6-8 pm, Friday at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to the Community Care Home Employees.
