Esther A. Provost was born on Jan. 26, 1913 in St. Joseph, KS to David & Rosanna (Balthazor) Girard. She passed from this life on Tues., Feb. 15, 2011 at the Presbyterian Manor, Clay Center, KS at the age of 98. Esther married William "Bill" Provost on Oct. 8, 1935 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph, KS. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1985. They farmed for six years and then moved to Clyde. Esther will be remembered for her kindness and willingness to help. Although she never had children, she was a mother or grandmother to many. She was known as 'Aunt Esther' and was a loving homemaker, devoted sister and a caring aunt, not only to her nieces and nephews, but countless children in the community. She was a talented seamstress, making over a hundred quilts, several wedding dresses and vestments for local priests. She was always there to lend a hand cooking, babysitting or anything else someone needed. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She is survived by her sister: Marie Derousseau & husband Alphonse, Clay Center, KS; sister in law: Franny Girard, Sioux City, Iowa; many nieces & nephews & many great nieces & great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents; brothers, Albert, Alcid & Leo Girard & sister, Stella Dallen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Sat., Feb. 19, 2011 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde, with Rev. Barry Brinkman officiating. Visitation will be held from 12-8 PM with a Parish Rosary at 4 PM and Vigil services at 6:30 PM, Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde. Burial will follow the services at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Clyde. The family suggests memorials to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
