Eugene "Gene" J. Lapolice was born on April 6, 1937 in Cloud County, Kansas to Fred and Edna Saulnier Lapolice. He passed from this life on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at his home in Clyde, Kansas. He graduated from Clyde High School. He worked for the Clyde Republican for 11 years as a printer and lino-type setter. He then began working as a local area farmer and carpenter until his retirement a couple years ago. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served as the Grand Knight for 3 years and Knights of Columbus recorder for 35 years. He was a 4th Degree Knight, where he served as a Faithful Navigator. He was a longtime Capt. of the Knights of Columbus Honor Guard. He was a member of the Possum Hollow CB Club. He coached Pee-Wee baseball for 12 years. He enjoyed hunting and in his later years observing wildlife and nature. He had a great love for the outdoors. He was very interested in genealogy and kept all the family history. He collected John Deere tractors and won many trophies and plaques. He is survived by his sisters, Doris Stokes and Hus. Lowell, Bellevue, NE, Mary Racette and Hus. Bob, Buhler, KS and Margaret DeBellis, East Meadow, NY and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jerome and an infant brother. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 8 PM on Wed., Sept. 12, 2007 at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde, KS. A Parish Rosary will be said at 4 PM Wed. and Vigil services with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 PM Wed. all at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde, KS. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde, KS with Rev. Larry Letourneau officiating. Immediately following the service, burial will be held at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, St. Joseph, KS. The family suggests memorials to the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Fund or Meadowlark Hospice.
