Eva Agnes Cote, 91 years of age, of Concordia, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia. She was born on November 3, 1922 in Vermillion, South Dakota to Joseph and Clarine (LaBarge) Hubert. Eva married Paul Eugene Cote on February 2, 1943 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Aurora. She was a farmwife and lived most of her married life near Aurora until moving to Concordia in 1997 and eventually to Sunset Nursing Home 3 years ago. Eva was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She enjoyed wood crafting, sewing, gardening, family, cooking, helping on the farm years ago, playing cards with friends, and Scrabble.
Eva is survived by 10 daughters, Pauline Cassel of Salina, Regina Nelson and husband Carl of Concordia, Dorothy Richard Chaput and husband Tom of Manhattan, Mary Newton and husband Gale of Concordia, Edna Schmitt and husband Matt of Beatrice, Nebraska, Loretta Detrixhe of Concordia and friend Dave Pfortmiller of Beloit, Joan McNeil and husband Melvin, Janet Nease and husband Brad, Martha Tatum and husband David "Bo", all of Concordia, Lois Schletzbaum and husband Karl of Overland Park; 2 sons, Raymond Cote and wife Yvonne of Miltonvale, Mark Cote and wife Sandy of Concordia; 32 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren with 2 expected soon; 7 great great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Albert Hubert, Eudric Hubert and wife Barbara; 2 sisters-in-law, Theresa Begnoche, Bernadine Kindel; 1 brother-in-law, Wilfred Cote; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul Cote on April 29, 2000; 2 sons-in-law, Donald Richard, Everett Cassel, Jr.; 3 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; sister, Irene Pierce and husband Edgar; and sister-in-law, Alice Hubert.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia with Rev. Brian Lager officiating. Interment will be in the St. Concordia Cemetery in Concordia. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM Friday, March 28, 2014 with a vigil service at 5:30 PM at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, the American Heart Association, or Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in care of the funeral home. Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia is in charge of arrangements.
