Fern Garlow was born on January 29, 1916 in Concordia, KS to Pearl & Etta (Dodge) Barleen. She passed from this life on Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 at Cheyenne Lodge Nursing Home, Jamestown, KS at the age of 93. Fern attended rural school in Republic County and graduated from Concordia High School in 1932. She married Clifford A. Garlow on April 19, 1936. He preceded her on May 25, 1967. She taught school for 3 years in rural Cloud and Republic counties. Following her marriage, she lived on the farm until moving to Concordia in 1957. Fern worked 24 years as a dental assistant to Dr. William Berner. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women, Church Women United, Chapter AO of P.E.O. and the Cloud County Health Center Auxiliary, all of Concordia. She is survived by her sons, Dale Garlow & wife Mary, Concordia, KS & Norris Garlow & wife Karen, Marietta, GA; daughter, Barbara Addison & husband Gilbert, Wichita, KS; brother, Donald Barleen, Klamath Falls, OR; sister, Jean Bergstrom, Klamath Falls, OR; 7 grandchildren & 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; parents; sisters, Lucille Myers & Velma Nutter & brother, Vernon Barleen. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, Feb. 20, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church, Concordia with Rev. Helen Moore-Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 9 PM with the family receiving friends from 7-8 PM Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to the family's choice.
