Fred L. Souchek, 77, passed away on June 18, 2008 , surrounded by family at the Kaye Pogue Hospice Hospital in Salina, KS. Fred was born on September 29, 1930 in Abilene, KS to Fred P. and Edna Landes Souchek. The family lived in Abilene, Missouri, Lucas, Jewell and Salina. Fred graduated from high school in Salina, KS. Fred was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as a Deacon. He married Martha Dawdy on September 17, 1950, in Jewell, KS. She survives the home. Fred was preceded in death by his parents. He is also survived by a daughter, Janet Pearson and husband Bob, Phoenix, AZ; a son, Alan Souchek, Concordia, KS; grandchildren, Kristi Demanette and husband Dave, Nashville, TN, Amanda Moon, Phoenix, AZ and a great granddaughter, Annabella Rose Demanette, Nashville, TN. Fred worked in the grain business for many years, including the Cloud County Co-Op Elevator. He retired as Head Maintenance Engineer at Sunset Home in 1992. He devoted much of his life to the model airplane hobby which brought him great pleasure. Fred actively collected antique model airplane engines. He shared his extensive knowledge and expertise by mentoring numerous people. The Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:00 AM, Sat., June 21,at the First Christian Church, Concordia, KS. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 9 PM with the family greeting friends from 7-8 PM Friday, June 20, at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, KS. Burial will be at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or the Hospice Hospital of Salina.
