Gary D. Cherny, Sr., age 72, formerly of Marysville, KS, passed away Tues., Sept. 3, 2013 at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia after a valiant fight against cancer. Gary was born on Nov. 30, 1940 in Marysville, KS to Alvin & Frances (Sabin) Cherny.

Gary graduated from Frankfort High School in 1958. He served in the US Army from 1961-1964. He married Dorothy A. Ryan of Topeka on June 8, 1968 in Blaine, KS. Gary worked for Beattie & Herkimer Coop's. He later worked for Marshall County Road & Bridge Dept. as a road maintenance operator until his retirement in 2002.

Gary will be greatly missed by his extended family and a host of friends. He died peacefully surrounded by his wife and family.

Gary is survived by his wife Dorothy, Concordia; daughters, Linda Rudolph & hus. Edward, Clyde & Mary Brown & hus. Scott, Odessa, MO; son, Gary "Bud" Cherny, Jr. & wife Shelby, Gardner; sister, Norma Hartman, Omaha, NE & grandchildren., Laken & Lily Rudolph, Kylee Brown & Laney & Caden Cherny.

He was preceded in death by his parents & grandparents.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 2 pm, Fri., Sept. 6, 2013 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Lager officiating. Burial will follow the services at St. Concordia Cemetery, Concordia with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post #76 & VFW Post #588. Closed casket visitation will be held from 10 am to 9 pm Thurs. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Sunset Nursing Home or Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
