Genevieve Goering was born on Nov. 29, 1919 in Barnes, KS to Joseph and Katherine Grimes Hiltgen. She passed from this life on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008 at Mt. Joseph Senior Community, Concordia, KS at the age of 88. She graduated from Barnes High School in 1938 and then graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1941 at Concordia, KS. She worked one year at St. John's Hospital in Salina, Kansas after graduation, then returned to St. Joseph Hospital in Concordia. She worked as a registered nurse until a back injury, then worked as the purchasing director until retirement in 1982. She married Louis Isaac Goering on December 26, 1942 at the Catholic rectory in Concordia. They lived their married life on Louis's family farm at Ames, Kansas. Louis died June 30, 1993.She belonged to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Clyde. She was very devoted to her family and friends, religion and prayer. She is survived by her daughter, Janis Cyphers and husband Bill, Concordia, KS; son, James Goering and wife Barbara, Lenexa, KS; son in law, Walter St. Pierre, Clyde, KS; 8 grandchildren: William Cyphers and Angela, Katie Sparks and Kenneth all of Clifton, Pamela Strickland and William, Concordia, James Goering and Jennifer, Platte City, MO., Jody Lewis, Blue Springs, MO., Judy Boutz and Fred,Olathe, Christine Shultheiss and John, St. Louis MO., and Charles Goering, Lenexa, KS. 16 great-grandchildren: Kaleb and Haley Tremblay, Zachary and Levi Cyphers, Christopher and Jonathon Sparks, Daniel and Emily Goering, Sydney and Aaron Boutz, and Jack, Benjamin, David, Courtney, Mark and Nicholas Schultheiss and Jake Strickland. She is also survived by her Mt. Joseph family and many nieces and nephews she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; daughter, Karen "Jo" St. Pierre; brothers, Jim & Melvin Hiltgen; sisters, Kathleen Sawin, Irene Peterson, Mary Hiltgen & Madelene Froehlich. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Friday, Sept. 12, 2008 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde, KS with Rev. Larry Letourneau officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 8 PM with a Rosary at 7 PM on Thurs., Sept. 11, 2008 at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde. Burial will follow the services at Pleasant View Cemetery, Ames, KS. The family suggests memorials to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
