George W. Galbraith was born on March 17, 1915 in Fairbury, Nebraska, to Clarence J. and Edna Shoebotham Galbraith. He passed from this life on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, Kansas at the age of 92. He married Evelyn Doty on August 4, 1940 in Concordia, KS. They resided in Fairbury until 1957 when they moved to Boulder, CO, where he worked as a watchmaker for Hurdle's Jewelry until his retirement in 1991. George proudly served in the Army Air Force from 1943 to 1945. He served in the South Pacific and flew 42 missions on a B-24 bomber as a tail gunner. As a result of his bravery he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with Four Stars and one Gold Chevron. George was a life member of the VFW Post #1771 in Lafayette, CO and American Legion Post #76 of Concordia, KS. He was a past member of the First Christian Church in Boulder. Until recently he and Evelyn enjoyed reunions with his crew members from World War II. Another favorite pastime was reading, especially about train, airplanes, and history. He also spent many happy hours playing pool at the Concordia Senior Center with his buddies. Survivors include his wife Evelyn, of the home, daughter- Rise' Anne Tribolet, son- George Bruce Galbraith, two grandsons- Ronald Coonrod and Kent Galbraith, 4 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, three sisters: Ruthanna Chase, Maxine Marcum, Catherine MacDonald, and numerous Nieces and Nephews. Memorial services will be at a later date. The body was cremated. Memorials may be made in George's memory to the Lafayette Colorado VFW Post #1771, 105 W Ema, Lafayette, CO 80026 or the American Cancer Society.
