Gerald R. Pierce was born on Oct. 5, 1921 in Rural Clyde, KS to Ray & Cordelia (Couture) Pierce. He passed from this life on Mon., July 20, 2009 at Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde at the age of 87. Gerald graduated from Clyde High School. He served in the US Army during WWII. He married Mary Johnstone on Oct. 4, 1945 in Manchester, England. Gerald was a lifelong area resident and farmer. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, American Legion & VFW Post # 7515. Gerald was a hard worker and struggled through the difficult times to raise his family. He was a good husband, Daddy & Grandpa. He is survived by his wife: Mary Pierce, Clyde, KS; daughters: Patty Cote & husband Larry, Fairbury, NE, Cathy Lawson & husband Bob, Agenda, KS & Janet Pfeifer & husband Dennis, Hays, KS; son: Bill Pierce & wife Janet, Clyde, KS; 12 grandchildren & 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents & brothers, Dean & Lyle Pierce. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Thurs., July 23, 2009 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde with Rev. Larry Letourneau officiating. Visitation will be from 12-8 PM with a Rosary at 7 PM, Wed., July 22, 2009 at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde. Burial with military honors conducted by Ft. Riley & VFW Post #7515 will follow the services at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Clyde. The family suggests memorials to Park Villa Nursing Home or Meadowlark Hospice in care of the funeral home.
