Glenn H. Larsen, 89 years of age, formerly of Jamestown, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia. He was born on April 18, 1922 in Cloud County to Harold F. and Bertha J. (Vandeveer) Larsen. He had been a resident of Mt. Joseph Senior Village since 2010. Glenn attended rural grade school and graduated from Concordia High School in 1940. Glenn served 34 months in the Army Air Force during World War II, with 27 months in the European Theater. He farmed in the Concordia and Jamestown area of Cloud County for many years. Glenn served on the REA board of directors for 18 years. He was also on the Buffalo township board for several years. Glenn married Rita M. Flynn on June 11, 1950 in Aurora. He was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia. Glenn was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Rita of Concordia; son, Fred Larsen and wife Phyllis of rural Concordia; four grandchildren, Michelle Widen and husband Jack of Concordia, Christina Bausch and husband Daniel of Hoyt, Bryan Larsen of Jamestown, Jill Larsen of Hays; four great grandchildren, Christian and Anna Widen, Darren and Alaina Bausch; brother, Virgil Larsen and wife Ruby; two sisters, Opal Gile, Corda McMillan and husband Stanley; sister-in-law, Nora Larsen; brother-in-law, Vincent Link and wife Roberta; 18 nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Laverne Currie, Agnes Rodgers; a brother, Mervin Larsen; sister-in-law, Martina Link; and brothers-in-law, Eric Currie, Edwin Rodgers, and Clarence Gile.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Friday, September 9, 2011, in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, with Rev. Barry Brinkman officiating. Interment will be in the St. Concordia Catholic Cemetery, Concordia. Military gravesides services will be provided by the American Legion Post #76 and VFW Post #588. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM Thursday, September 8, 2011 with vigil services at 6:30 PM and family greeting friends from 7 – 8 PM in the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia. Memorials may be left to the church in care of the funeral home.
