Grace Elder was born on Nov. 17, 1911 in Topeka, KS to Timothy J. & Charlotte (LaGasse) Pomeroy. She passed from this life on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010 at Cloud County Health Center, Concordia at the age of 98. Grace graduated from Miltonvale Wesleyan High School and then Emporia State Teachers College with a B.S. in Education. She married Rev. Floyd Elder on June 1, 1938 in Naponee, NE. He preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 1961. Grace taught at various schools and specialized in special education from 1965 until her retirement in 1977. She was a long time member of the Concordia Wesleyan Church, serving in many capacities including Sunday School teacher and Bible study leader. She is survived by her daughters: Arlene Felch & husband Ken, Topeka, KS & Ardith Haynes & husband David, Kansas City, MO; grandchildren: Katrina Widen & husband Mark, Belleville, KS, Kent Taylor, Jamestown, KS, Cynthia Sexton, Kansas City, MO & Craig Comfort & wife Dawn, Kansas City, MO; great grandchildren: Marcus Widen, Oklahoma City, OK, Thaddeus Widen, Virginia Beach, VA, Chelsey Taylor, Miltonvale, KS, Chasity Dodson, Ft. Worth, TX, Joshua & Jordan Sexton, Kansas City, MO & Savannah, Samantha & Sullivan Comfort, Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, parents & brother, Arthur Pomeroy. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, Oct. 29, 2010 at the Wesleyan Church, Concordia. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM with family greeting friends from 6-7 PM Thursday at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Burial will follow the services at the Miltonvale Cemetery, Miltonvale, KS. The family suggests memorials to the Sunset Home or Concordia Wesleyan Church in care of the funeral home.
