Gwen R. Lefort died Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia, KS at the age of 83.  She was born Aug. 29, 1925 to Henry & Dorothy (Pounds) Lefort on a farm near Jamestown, KS. She lived in Cloud Co. all her life and attended country near Glasco. The family moved to Concordia in the early 50's and Gwen never lost her love for the farm and animals. She kept a little of the farm life alive after moving to the city by raising chickens in the back yard for many years. Gwen was employed by St. Joseph Hospital (Cloud County Health Center) for 20 years. She also babysat for several families in Concordia before her employment at the hospital. Never having learned to drive, Gwen logged many miles walking everywhere in town, stopping to visit neighbors or tend to flowers and pets along the way. Often, she was offered rides by friends for acquaintances and she would accept if the weather was bad, but mostly she preferred to walk and enjoy the outdoors and nature. She is survived by her sister, Phyllis McDaniel & husband Bill, Santa Maria, CA; brother in law, Bill Hare, Concordia, KS; sister in law, Donna Lefort, Salina, KS; several nieces, nephews, cousins & many friends & her longtime companion, her bird "Sweety". She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Delbert H. & Kenneth P. Lefort; sister, Ramona Hare.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM, Tues., June 9, 2009 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia with Rev. Barry Brinkman officiating.  Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM with vigil services at 6:30 PM, Mon., June 8, 2009 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.  Burial will follow the services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.  The family suggests memorials to Meadowlark Hospice.
