H. Burton Smith was born on April 21, 1915 in Talmo, KS to Harry H. and Hazel Lowell Smith. He passed from this life on Monday, August 11, 2008 at the age of 93 at Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde, KS. He attended school in Munden and graduated from Belleville High School. He attended Emporia State Teachers College. He married Lorine Salsbury on Nov. 25, 1937 at the United Methodist Church in Chester, NE. She preceded him in death on July 25, 2003. They lived in Belleville, Concordia and Downs before settling in Clyde in 1941. He taught school for 5 years before starting Smith Hatchery in 1941. He began working for Cloud Ceramics as a truck driver in 1954 until retiring in 1986. He is survived by his son, Lowell Smith & wife Cindy, Kansas City, MO; daughters, Beverly Fraser & Hus. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorine; an infant son, his parents, 2 granddaughters, Kelly Fraser and Deanna Blackwood and brothers, Dean H. Smith and Royce Larsen. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM, Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008 at the United Methodist Church, Clyde, KS with Rev. Anita Strommen officiating. Burial will follow the services at Zion Cemetery, Talmo, KS. Visitation will be held from 12 to 8 PM with the family greeting friends from 6-8 PM Wed., Aug. 13, 2008 at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde, KS. The family suggests memorials to the Clyde Ambulance Fund or Clyde United Methodist Church.
