Helen M. Girard was born on March 4, 1915 in Clyde, KS to Edward & Eugenie (Bachand) Derousseau. She passed from this life on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at her daughter's home in Concordia, KS at the age of 95. Helen married Albert Girard on Oct. 8, 1935 in St. Joseph, KS. He preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 1979. Helen was a housewife and homemaker at her home in the St. Joseph, KS area. She spent most of her life in the St. Joseph community. She also worked as a laundress for the Park Villa Nursing Home in Clyde for 20 years. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church until it closed in 1993. She then attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde and most recently Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia. She was a member of the St. Ann's Society. She is survived by her daughters: Audrey Swihart & husband Rex Jr., Concordia, KS & Louise Martin & husband Don, Topeka, KS; son: Leon Girard & wife Gloria, Ames, IA; daughter in law: Mary Girard, Clyde, KS; brother: Alphonse Derousseau & wife Marie, Clay Center, KS; sisters in law: Esther Provost, Clay Center, KS & Franny Girard, Sioux City, IA; 21 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren & 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; son, Bernard; parents; grandchildren, Kurtis & Joseph; brothers, Ferd & Louis Derousseau; sisters, Theresa LeDuc, Rita Sorell, Margaret & Elva Derousseau, Francis Chizek & Dora Tremblay. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 AM, Tues., April 6, 2010 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia with Rev. Barry Brinkman officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM with a Vigil service at 6:30 PM Mon., April 5, 2010 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, St. Joseph, KS. The family suggests memorials to the Guardians of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph, KS in care of the funeral home.
