Obituary

Herbert "Herb" E. Johnson was born on November 4, 1925 in Agenda, Kansas to Ernest N. and Grace B. Ahlstedt Johnson. He passed from this life on Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Mount Joseph Senior Community, Concordia, Kansas. He graduated from Agenda High School. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He married Marcine L. Peterson on June 1, 1947 in Clifton, KS. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 42 and half years, retiring in June 1989. He was a member of VFW Baker-Holmes #3722 and American Legion Post Robert E. Gordon #133 , Belleville. He also belonged to the Heartland Car Club and the SBC Telephone Pioneers. He was a retired gunsmith and loved to hunt. He is survived by his wife, Marcine of the home; son, Michael Johnson, Kennewick, WA; daughters, Rita Youngers and husband Robert, Wichita, KS, Shirley Johnson and husband Jim, Concordia, KS and Teresa Harris and husband Van, Marshall, MN; grandchildren, Stacy Mitchell and husband Rocky, Topeka, KS, Janna Coffey and husband Keith, Pasco, WA, Cynthia Cruz and husband Freddie, Pasco, WA, Amber Harris and Ryan Harris, both of Marshall, MN; great grandchildren, Rachelle and Cole Mitchell, Topeka, KS and Beth Ann, Caleb and Emma Kate Coffey, Pasco, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Kelly Johnson, sisters, Daphne, Mary Lou and Norma and a brother, Claude. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, Concordia with Rev. Sandra K. Moore officiating. Burial will follow the services at the Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, KS with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post #76 and VFW Post #588, Concordia. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM with the family greeting friends from 7-8 PM Tues., July 15, 2008 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church or Solomon Valley Hospice. The also wishes to extend an invitation to family and friends to join them for lunch at Noon, Wed., July 16, 2008 in the Fellowship Hall at the First United Methodist Church, Concordia.
