Irene E. Barton, age 83, left this earthly life on May 6, 2018 at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia, KS.  She was born on May 25, 1934 in Tipton, KS to Louis P. & Mary Ann (Hake) Schmitt.

Irene graduated from Tipton Catholic High School.  She married Cleo Barton on Jan. 12, 1957 in Tipton, KS and he preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 2012.  Irene was a CNA and later the Activities Director at the Cheyenne Lodge Nursing Home in Jamestown.  She was a longtime Jamestown area resident.  She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia and the Altar Society.  She was a former member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Jamestown.  She was active at the Jamestown Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed playing cards.

Irene is survived by her 6 children; Annette (Dennis) Boddy of Manhattan, Nelson Barton of  Manhattan, Marietta Ortiz (Dave Wilson) of La Crosse, Roger (Mary Jane) Barton of Valley Center, Patty (Kurt) Zimmer of Jamestown, Curt (Kathi) Barton of Salina; 15 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Delores Deneault, Concordia & Sally Lokey, Lubbock, TX and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo; son, Dwann; her parents; grandson, Jeremy Ortiz; sisters, Catherine Streit & Madolyn Schulte & brothers, Leo & Paul Schmitt.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, May 11, 2018 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia with Fr. David Metz officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Jamestown.  Visitation will be Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Vigil & Altar Society rosary at 6:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends after the Rosary all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.  The family suggests memorials to Meadowlark Hospice or the Jamestown Senior Citizens Center in care of the funeral home.  For online condolences, please visit www.chaputbuoy.com.
