Obituary

Isadore "Izzy" E. Bombardier was born on Jan. 12, 1921 South of Jamestown, KS to Leo V. & Alma R. (Chaput) Bombardier.  He died on Sun., May 20, 2012 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, KS at the age of 91.  Izzy graduated from Jamestown High School in 1940.  He served in the US Army during WWII for 3 ½ years as Chief of Section, Light Artillery of Rhineland and Central Europe.  He received a Theater ribbon with two stars and American Theater ribbon.  He married Ruth J. Mugridge on June 3, 1946 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia.  Izzy began farming and later was the department manager at the Co-op service station in Jamestown from 46-56 and then moved with his family to Concordia and was the Co-op department manager until 1965.  He began Izzy's Heating & Air Conditioning in 1965 and operated the business for 20 years when he retired and sold the business to his son, Vincent.  Izzy was an active community citizen and served several terms as Mayor of Concordia, he also served on the Concordia City Commission, Cloud County Community College Foundation Board of Directors & the Cloud County Health Center Foundation Board.  He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #588 & American Legion Post #76, a member of the DAV, Knights of Columbus, Loyal Order of the Moose #1428, Concordia Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, Concordia Chamber of Commerce, CCCC Booster Club & a former Elks Lodge member.  Izzy served on the school and church boards while in Jamestown  and on the Parish Council in Concordia. Izzy was a Eucharistic minister at both the church, hospital and Mt. Joseph.  He also was a lay minister and altar server. He served as a guardian/conservator for several individuals.  He & Ruth were always spending their time volunteering together. To some, Izzy was 'Mr. Concordia', always willing to serve and lend a hand to any project, concern or issue that was to the betterment of both Concordia and Cloud County.  His legacy of service is a benchmark for every Concordian to strive to reach. Izzy's greatest personal achievement in life was building a strong family bond and instilling solid Christian & moral values with his children.  He also took pride in his children's academic accomplishments, giving them the inspiration required to succeed. Izzy is survived by his wife of almost 66 years, Ruth; son, Vincent (Janette), Benton, KS; daughters, Linda West (Stephen), Colwich, KS & Paula Haworth (Robert), Salina, KS; grandchildren, Marcus West (Sarah), Wichita, Amy Summers, Colwich, Shawn West, Wichita, Stephanie Kaiser, Eudora, Stacie Bombardier, Wichita, Alissa Janey (Greg), Shakopee, MN, Aaron & Kevin Bombardier, Benton, Sara Guidry (Parker), Shawnee, Kyle Haworth (Ciara), Goddard & Ryan Haworth (fiancé Nena Robison), Salina; great grandchildren; Jocelin, Jaden, Makenna, Sidney, Gram, Nicholas, Alyana, Josie & Landon; step great grandchildren, Rylee & Haylee & sisters in law, Lois Stone & Betty Bombardier, Concordia.  He was preceded in death by his parents & brothers, Elvin & Legouri Bombardier.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Thurs., May 24, 2012 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia with Rev. Barry Brinkman officiating and burial following at St. Concordia Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post #76 & VFW Post #588.  Visitation will be from 9 am to 9 pm with a Vigil service at 6:30 pm, Wed. all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to the church Stained Glass Refurbishment Project and the Downtown Concordia Beautification Project in care of the funeral home.
